Police Chief Art Howell and Fire Chief Steve Hansen presented 2017 budgets that just slightly differed from their respective 2016 budgets Wednesday night, although they include salary and overtime increases. Overall, the Police Department’s budget is projected to increase by just less than 3 percent, to roughly $28.6 million. The Fire Department’s budget is slated to increase by roughly 4.5 percent to $16.3 million, once a $1.9 million fire hydrant charge, which was budgeted in 2016 but removed from the proposed 2017 operating budget for accounting reasons, is factored in. Neither department made changes to its overall staff total.
