VIDEO: Just after 11 p.m. Sunday night, officers responded to a Main Street apartment building in Rice Lake. Police said they heard a man yelling and moved quickly to get other tenants to safety. Captain Tracy Hom, with the Rice Lake Police Department, said the dispatch center received a call from a disgruntled person, stating that he was going to “blow himself up”. Shortly after officers arrived and evacuated the complex, the explosion went off. Heather Wilkins, who lives nearby the apartment complex, was forced to evacuate her home. “It sounded like a gunshot type of boom, like a bang," Wilkins said. As firefighters battled the blaze, danger stretched to neighboring homes, affecting residents like Wilkins. “It got to be so bad that they told us we had to get out right away,” Wilkins said.
