Mauston fire chief Kim Hale wants residents to know that there are 29 smoke detectors available for nearby residents in need. The detector will be installed by members of the Mauston fire department, free of charge. “These are provided through the American Red Cross and Wisconsin SAFE,” Chief Hale said. Hale emphasized the importance of smoke alarms in saving lives. “It’s going to alert you. It’s going to make it so you can get out before the smoke gets to you. And at least give you a fighting chance to get out of the home, and smoke kills.” The available smoke alarms are meant to last for ten years.
