A late-night fire gutted a downtown Chetek apartment and business and three fire departments were called to help fight the blaze Sunday, Jan. 7.
Cleanup was still ongoing Monday morning, Jan. 8, and Second Street—from Moore to Douglas Streets—was closed due to ice. Traffic was detoured on side streets. It would be closed for at least Monday, said Chetek Police Chief Ron Ambrozaitis. Knapp Street—from Second to Fourth streets—was also closed and would likely be closed longer, he said, due to the debris.
The fire was reported in the apartment above The Salon at 214 Knapp St. at 11:18 p.m. on Sunday, according to Barron County dispatch logs.
