A fire at a Glendale hotel on Dec. 17 caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, according to the North Shore Fire Department. The fire at Motel 6, 5485 N. Port Washington Road, started at about 11 a.m. in a third-floor maintenance closet on the south side of the hotel. The fire did not spread beyond the room, due to the hotel's sprinkler system, according to the fire department. The southbound lanes of Port Washington Road between Silver Spring Drive and the hotel were shut down to make room for police and fire vehicles. The hotel was evacuated. Glendale police officers had to assist several elderly and physically disabled individuals from the building. One person reported a minor injury that occurred while evacuating the building. She was evaluated by paramedics and declined transport to a hospital, according to the fire department. The small fire was brought under control and extinguished quickly.
