The La Crosse Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment building Friday night. Firefighters got the call around 9:45 p.m. for a fire at 918 Denton Street. According to La Crosse Fire Chief Ken Gilliam, firefighters were able to get everyone out of the two-story building safely and put out the fire fairly quickly. The chief previously reported no injuries, but now says two people were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The chief says the fire started on the second floor of the building, although a cause is unknown at this time. He estimated there were around 12 apartment units. Some of the tenants were expected to be displaced for the night.
