VIDEO: The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office is trying to determine what caused a fatal fire Wednesday in Fayette Township, near Argyle. The family is mourning the loss of the man, as Melvin Leroy Narveson, known to them as "Leroy." Narveson would have turned 90 in February. "He was very independent. He was a little bit stubborn, but he liked to do everything himself," said Narveson's stepson, Michael Butson. "He lived life the way he wanted to live it." Narveson leaves behind Sandra Narveson, his wife of more than 40 years, as well as seven children, three step-children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butson grew up in the house on South Lake Road where the fire happened and now lives next door. His wife was working from home Wednesday just before noon when she looked out the window and saw the house on fire. The Sheriff's Office said deputies, along with firefighters from Argyle, Blanchardville and Darlington responded to the home after the 911 call came in.
