Menomonee Falls Director of Protective Services Anna Ruzinski on July 29 resigned from her position overseeing the village's fire department, officials announced in a news release. Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald said that there is no hiring timeline set in place to replace Ruzinski, who oversaw both the fire and police departments and will continue to serve as police chief. Fitzgerald did say there is a possibility there could be a separate fire chief position. "There is that possibility. This decision will be based on what kind of feedback the village board receives on (Ruzinski's) resignation," said Fitzgerald. He added that the resignation was absolutely Ruzinski's decision; he was informed of it late last week. "It was made in what she thought would be in the best interest in the community," Fitzgerald said. He said he was not surprised with the decision, but was not "happy or pleased" with it, either.
