Dane County may be the second-most populous county in Wisconsin and home to the state’s capital, but it doesn’t exempt the area from the occasional agricultural accident. It’s why the Dane County Farm Bureau and multiple agents of Rural Mutual Insurance Co. found it important to sponsor a recent ag rescue training, with the Farm Bureau fronting two-thirds of the cost for 10 area fire departments to participate.
Fifty-one firefighters from the Belleville, Dane, Verona, Brooklyn, Oregon, Cross Plains, Maple Bluff, McFarland and Mount Horeb departments trained with Stateline Farm Rescue on March 9, learning about grain bin extraction, auger entanglement, how to cut into a grain bin and rope rescue. The ag safety day was held in the shop at Doerfer Farms, with the Doerfer brothers, John and Gary, donating the use of the facility for the training.
