Four fallen Green Bay Metro firefighters were honored Sunday. It was the first time they were recognized locally, after dying in the line of duty from occupational cancer. “Time does not diminish the significance of the loss; in particular with these four being cancer. This is a lesson learned,” said Lieutenant David Siegel with the Green Bay Fire Department. The men's names were added to the Wisconsin Memorial of Fallen Firefighters last year, but were most recently added to the International Association of Firefighters’ Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs. “As we honor these men who gave their lives in service to their communities and our great nation, I pray we would have the heart, all of us, of a first responder,” said the department chaplain, Andrew Collins. While many families could not make it to that ceremony, Sunday, those flags were handed to family members in Green Bay.
