A family was able to evacuate their Bangor home Saturday morning after they were alerted by a smoke detector to a fire. The incident happened at a home on Wolf Road. Bangor-Burns Fire Department Chief Bob Rueckheim said firefighters were paged to the house fire around 1 a.m. A husband and wife were inside at the time. They were able to evacuate with their dog. They will be staying with family members, according to Chief Rueckheim. The West Salem Fire Department was called for mutual aid at the scene. They assisted until about 5 a.m. The Sparta Area Fire District was also paged but was not needed. Firefighters cleared the scene around 6 a.m. The home is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
