A device found outside the Superior Fire Department's new headquarters has shut down Tower Avenue.
Superior Fire Chief Scott Gordon confirmed the threat to the News Tribune, but said the department was safe inside its building at 3025 Tower Ave.
Nearby Tower Avenue has been shut down out of precaution and the device and area have been "isolated," Gordon said.
"We're shielded," Gordon said. "It's about 100 yards north of us and we shut down the highway."
Tower Avenue is closed between 31st and 38th streets.
The department remained in its headquarters at about 10:30 a.m., but in a City of Superior news release, Mayor Jim Paine “ordered the evacuation of all personnel from the Fire Hall but all rigs are still in service and ready to respond throughout the City.”
On Facebook, Paine wrote that it was a "credible bomb threat."
