Some students got a chance to check out a Milwaukee fire station Friday. The firefighters at Station 6 on the east side hosted the winners of the department's Poster to Billboard contest. Students from various Milwaukee area schools created artwork depicting this year's theme -- "Not Every Hero Wears A Cape, Plan and Practice Your Escape!" It was one of many events that took place during Fire Prevention Week. "The main reason we have Fire Prevention Week is to bring attention to the importance of having a working smoke alarm," said Lt. Michael Ball. "It's so very important, yet each and every day we discover homes, we discover families that do not have smoke alarms. It's so critical, and talking with your family, sitting down drawing up and practicing a fire escape plan." The kids also got to check out the fire trucks and enjoyed a firehouse pizza lunch.
