No more pizza or coffee, please.
That’s the message the West Allis Fire Department is sharing with the community after many well-meaning folks have offered free coffee, pizza or other food to fire station personnel.
“To be honest we don't need free pizza or free cups of coffee,” the West Allis Fire Department posted on Facebook April 14. “We don't need money-off vouchers, etc.
“As much as we greatly appreciate the gesture, please offer a free cup of coffee or pizza to the families who are struggling to feed their children, the older generation, the self-employed, or to anyone else who is suffering financially from COVID-19 measures.” West Allis Deputy Fire Chief Michael Wright said the department wants to be careful so they can keep their staff healthy during the pandemic. He said if firefighters and paramedics start getting sick, it could affect their continuity of operations.
