Madison firefighters responded to an accidental fire at an aluminum supplier building Friday morning. An incident report said crews were sent to the 100 block of South Fair Oaks Avenue for a report of a fire inside Madison Kipp Corporation at about 7:15 a.m. Madison Gas and Electric also responded. Staff quickly evacuated the building as crews arrived to the scene. The report said firefighters were directed to a 55-gallon bin inside the building used to collect metal shavings. The fire was contained inside the bin as flames shot toward a vent hood above. Kipp Corporation maintenance staff helped firefighters by shutting down power to the vent hood and around the bin. Officials pried open the front of the bin and took out filters that were at risk of catching fire. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire at about 7:45 a.m. Officials confirmed the fire did not go beyond the vent hood, and no one was hurt. A number of overhead garage doors were also opened to help clear the smoke in the building.
