A Madison man faces tentative battery charges after assaulting a firefighter early Friday morning.
A downtown apartment building was evacuated in the 400 block of N. Frances Street around 2:23 a.m. after someone pulled a fire alarm.
Firefighters and private security guards said a man who lived there was acting in a wild manner and being aggressive towards several people. He then slapped a Madison Fire Department paramedic across the face.
Firefighters and security guards were struggling to control the suspect when police arrived. Police say Michael Hatch, 21, was kicking and talking incoherently and had been drinking. Hatch was taken to the hospital for medical clearance, then to jail. He faces tentative charges of battery to a firefighter, disorderly conduct, resisting/obstructing, and two counts of attempted battery.
