The new Onalaska fire chief has a familiar face: The city hired Troy Gudie, who had been assistant fire chief/fire inspector since 2003 and, most recently, interim fire chief. Gudie, who assumes the new post immediately, began his firefighting career in Onalaska in 1989 as a paid, on-call firefighter/first responder. He has been with the Onalaska Fire Department ever since. He replaces William “Billy” Hayes, who resigned in April. Gudie and his wife, Trudy, have two sons and two grandsons.
