A timely training exercise for first responders in Sheboygan as they hit the waters of Lake Michigan to refresh their lifesaving skills. While this call isn’t urgent, the situation these guys are training for can be. “It creates different currents and the lake changes fairly quickly,” Sheboygan Fire Department’s Battalion Chief Jeff Salzman said. Six Sheboygan firefighters and four Sheboygan County sheriff’s deputies team up for surf rescue training along Lake Michigan’s shoreline. “They’re working in the waves close to the pier and in the rocks and that area. It creates some issues as far as timing the waves as well as possible entrapments in the rocks,” Salzman said.
