Man dies after being pulled from Fond du Lac River

Fond du Lac police say a man who was pulled from the Fond du Lac River after an hour-long search has died. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue tells Action 2 News the 37-year-old man was fishing when he saw friends on the other side of the river. He jumped in the water and swam across, and sat talking with the friends for 30 or 40 minutes before going back into the river. Halfway across, his friends say, he started struggling and thrashing in the water. They called 911. One witness jumped in the water but couldn't find him and went back to shore. Dispatchers sent the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office dive team and multiple first responder agencies to the river near the Arndt Street Bridge. Police used an aerial drone to help with the search. Firefighters say the current was swift.
