The Suring man who died Sunday night following a crash has been identified as Zachary R. Zahn, 44. He was the fourth person to die in a motor vehicle accident in Oconto County this year. Zahn had served a decade on the Suring Fire Department, and was named a captain in January, said his cousin, Suring Fire Chief Mark Zahn. Zachary Zahn managed the department’s fleet and handled maintenance. “He was very good mechanic,” Mark Zahn said. At the firehouse, Zach was a cheerful guy who “lifted everyone’s morale,” the chief noted. Zahn ran a welding business from his residence and raised beef cattle, but made time for local service as well. “He was very community minded,” Mark Zahn said. “He’d volunteer to do anything anytime for anybody.” “He’s going to be missed,” he added. “He’s good for the community.” The crash occurred in the town of Maple Valley, not far from his residence.
