One firefighter was taken to the hospital while fire crews battled a house fire Sunday afternoon on Mill Street. Fire crews responded around 2 p.m. to the 300 block of North Mill Street in Merrill, according to the Merrill Fire Department. Fire crews found smoke coming from the home and started extinguishing the fire from outside. They also entered the home and put out the rest of the fire in the living room and checked for hot spots. Officials said an ambulance took one firefighter to Aspirus Wausau Hospital after they had a medical issue on scene, and they were treated and released. No one was home when the fire started, and it was reported by a passerby. Officials believe the fire started in the living room, possibly from electrical equipment.
