A Merrill man is expected to make a full recovery after his coworkers performed the first aid that saved his life. Local firefighters who responded to the incident Tuesday and provided the first aid training used that day have now been recognized for their efforts. On March 10, an employee at Weinbrenner Shoe Company went into "full cardiac arrest" according to Safety Director Robert Watry. "It's a rare occurrence," said Watry. "This will stay in our memory for a long time." The company's first aid team immediately performed CPR and used one shock from an AED to revive the man. According to Watry, the AED was purchased two years ago but used for the first time Tuesday. Watry said his employees could not have performed those lifesaving measures without training from the Merrill Fire Department.
