Madison firefighters responded Friday to a house fire on the city’s north side just after 5 p.m.
According to an incident report, the Madison Fire Department received a call at 5:02 p.m. regarding a house fire at 1022 Reinke Drive. Fire officials said neighbors reported seeing flames at the back of the home and saw the residents escaping.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming out of the roof. It took the responders roughly 15 minutes to extinguish the fire. According to the report, the house will be uninhabitable until repairs are made. The house sustained severe fire and smoke damage, the report said.
Investigators with the Madison Fire Department estimate there was $120,000 worth of damage. Officials believe the fire was accidentally caused by an unattended grill being too close to combustible materials.
