Milwaukee firefighters fought two large blazes that broke out within minutes of each other Friday afternoon.
On the east side, it took firefighters about 45 minutes to get a fire at the popular Hooligan's Super Bar, 2017 E. North Ave., under control.
And as of 5 p.m., crews were still working to put out a fire at ReCommunity Recycling, a large recycling complex at 1401 West Mount Vernon Avenue in the Menomonee Valley.
Dispatchers received the first call about the recycling plant at 3:39 p.m., diverting many downtown crews south, Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said in a news conference. The call for the fire at Hooligan's came in at 3:45 p.m.
No one was injured in the Hooligan's fire, Deputy Chief Andrew Vossekuil said. He did not believe anyone was inside when it broke out.
