According to a report from The Journal Times, the South Shore (WI) Fire Department (SSFD) is pushing for an increase in resident and nonresident ambulance service fees for the second time in the past two years. The SSFD has 66 uniformed personnel that serve a 38-square-mile area of more than 33,500 residents in the villages of Sturtevant and Mount Pleasant. Eighty-Two percent of the department is funded by Mount Pleasant, while the other 18 percent is funded by Sturtevant; the trustees from both villages are in various stages of considering the proposal. If approved by both, the increases are expected to begin on January 1, 2021. SSFD Chief Robert Stedman said the department wants to review and increase its ambulance service fees every other year, noting approval of both village boards is needed to implement changes in the fee structure.
