Six people were displaced from a house fire just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, according to firefighters. The Appleton Fire Department said the fire happened at a home on the 700 block of E. Brewster St. The Department reported residents had noticed a haze and the smell of smoke on the main floor before discovering the fire and calling 911. Initial reports were that there were kids trapped in the basement, but fire units said they were notified everyone was out before they arrived on scene. First responders said there was heavy smoke in the house with a fire in the upstairs bedroom. After the fire was put out, crews used fans to help remove smoke from the home.
