The town of Delafield Fire Department will consolidate with Lake Country Fire and Rescue.
The town board approved the move Sept. 1; the change is effective Jan. 1, 2021.
"It was never a question of if the town was going to consolidate, it was always a question of when," said Town Supervisor Edward Kranick. "From the town board's perspective, it seemed like the stars kind of aligned."
The village of Wales and the town of Genesee, which already shared a fire department, along with the village of Oconomowoc Lake, joined the group this year as well.
"With the retirement of (town of Delafield) fire chief (Paul Kozlowski) and looking long term at the budget, it just didn't seem cost effective to try and sustain the fire service as a standalone operation in the town of Delafield," Kranick said.
