Police are investigating a fire that took place over the weekend in a downtown neighborhood as a possible hate crime. The fire happened in the early morning hours Sunday, though police didn't release many other details, describing it only as a "serious incident involving a possible arson that damaged a home," according to a post on the Appleton Police Department's Facebook page. Meghan Cash, a spokeswoman for the department, said officers suspected a hate crime may have been involved "based on some of the evidence collected." "This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our city," the department said in the Facebook post. "We are actively investigating this incident as a potential hate crime and will provide additional details when we are able."
