PHOTOS: A two-story house and its contents were destroyed in a blaze Monday that fire departments from six Jackson County communities fought for more than four hours. The county’s emergency dispatch center paged the Black River Falls Fire Department to the house on Larkin Road in Irving Township shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, according to the department’s Facebook page. A passerby had alerted the dispatch center. The first firefighters to arrive found flames coming from several first-floor windows on the 35-by-45-foot house. Black River Falls firefighters immediately requested mutual aid from fire departments in Alma Center, Hixton, Melrose, Merrillan and Taylor. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies assisted with traffic control, and municipal workers from Black River Falls and Irving helped keep the roadways free of ice.
