A Kenosha, Wis. man died Wednesday morning after suffering a medical emergency just after exiting a structure fire in Fountain City. The man, who was not identified, was one of two occupants of a multi-family structure located on South Main Street in Fountain City, according to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department. The fire shut down Highway 35 at Fountain City for several hours Wednesday morning. The sheriff’s department reported that fire-fighters were called to the building in downtown Fountain City at about midnight and arrived to find both occupants safely outside without obvious injuries. A short time after exiting the building, the 62-year-old man suffered a medical emergency and was not able to be revived, despite responders’ efforts. Firefighters from six area fire departments battled the blaze for several hours in subzero temperatures. Firefighters were able to save neighboring buildings; however, the structure on fire is presumed to be a total loss.
