UpNorthLive News has received the fire report involving the M/V Roger Blough while at its winter storage dock in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. According to investigators, the freighter caught fire during the early morning hours of Monday, February 1 at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding. Lieutenant Matt Austad with the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department said responding personnel was able to enter the area by using the stairs of the neighboring freighter, James Barker, before moving across its deck to the Roger Blough. When responding, crews experienced extreme heat and smoke at the rear of the vessel, according to the fire report. According to Austad, crews were able to vent the fire by drilling holes in the conveyor belt tunnel in the rear area of the ship with the help of Bay Ship workers. After crews were able to vent and cool the area, they were able to enter and find the seat of the fire.
