The Oshkosh Fire Department is being recognized as one of the best in the country.
The department received an Insurance Service Organization (ISO) Public Protection Classification of 1, for the first time ever. The ISO rates over 40,000 fire departments all across the country on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the very best. This rating represents the effectiveness of the fire protection in a community.
In 2020, only 388 departments nationwide received a rating of 1. Of those, only 8 were in the State of Wisconsin.
““We have always known we are a first class department, it’s great to have our efforts publicly recognized as such,” said Fire Chief Mike Stanley.
Most insurance companies use the PPC rating to determine the fire insurance rates for commercial and residential properties within a community. For the average citizen and business in Oshkosh, this could mean a drop in insurance rates once the new rating takes effect on June 1 of this year.
