Madison firefighters responded to a house fire at a home on the city’s west side Tuesday morning. The home was located along the 500 block of Woodside Terrace. Crews were dispatched around 7:50 a.m. Investigators determined the fire was caused by “improperly discarded oil-saturated rags.” Renovators who were working at the home said they discarded an oily rag into a plastic bag and left it in the living room Monday afternoon. The report said they later found a small fire the following morning. Firefighters knocked down the fire with a water can extinguisher. Fire damage had been contained to a 4×4-foot area, but the fire did burn through the floor and into the basement ceiling.
