Karla Creuziger, a firefighter/paramedic with the city of Brookfield Fire Department, has responded to several calls that put her in close proximity to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
The thought of bringing the virus home to her family has crossed her mind numerous times in the last 10 months.
"You want to think that you're protected, but there's still a part of you that's like, is this the one time my PPE is going to fail, or is this my time I'm going to be exposed?" Creuziger said.
But on Friday, Jan. 8, she received her first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
It wasn't a moment too soon.
"Personally, I would have liked to see us (first responders) get the vaccination sooner," Creuziger said.
