No one was hurt during a fire at a nursing home in Oconto Thursday evening. At about 7:40 p.m., Oconto Fire and Rescue was called to the Bay at Oconto Health and Rehabilitation Center at 101 First St. Oconto Police arrived on scene to find all residents evacuated to a safe location within the building. Firefighters entered the building and found a slight haze of smoke in a hallway. Another set of firefighters went to the roof and found a heating unit had a “seized bearing” and a “burnt belt.” Thermal imaging confirmed damage was contained to the heating unit. The nursing home houses 44 people. There were eight staff members there at the time of the fire. Again, no one was hurt. “All facility residents and staff are safe and healthy. The residents were relocated to a safe area within the facility, following an all-clear given by Oconto Fire and Police Departments officials,” reads a statement from the nursing home.
