Three people and three pets were rescued from their burning home Saturday morning in Oshkosh. At about 7:39 a.m., the Oshkosh Fire Department was called to a house fire at 1627 Western Street. The woman who called said she and her two children, along with two dogs and a cat were trapped upstairs by smoke. Oshkosh police officers arrived just before firefighters and reported seeing smoke and flames. They say they were able to find a ladder in the garage so they could get to an upstairs window where the residents were trapped. Officers and firefighters helped the residents and pets escape safely. Crews say there is extensive damage to the home. They say there were no working smoke detectors and the woman was awakened by the smell of smoke.
