A revolutionary contribution to the fire and emergency market is coming out of the Fox Valley. The Oshkosh Corp. Fire & Emergency segment, which includes Appleton-based Pierce Manufacturing and Oshkosh Airport Products, announced Tuesday the introduction of the Volterra platform of electric vehicles for the fire and emergency market. Representatives from Pierce Manufacturing, Oshkosh Corp. and the city of Madison Fire Department unveiled one such vehicle, an electric hybrid fire truck, during a press conference Tuesday in Madison. The battery-powered truck, known as the Pierce Volterra zero-emissions pumper, has been in service in Madison since April, according to Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis, and is believed to be the first of its kind in North America.
