Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend Green Bay Metro Fire is stressing safety. “One of the best ways to stay safe is to watch the community fireworks shows run by the professionals,” said Lt. Shauna Walesh. “Whether it be in downtown Green Bay or one of the other local shows.” If you do choose to buy and set off your own fireworks, Walesh says you should use common sense. “You should never to allow young children to handle fireworks, and older children should only use them under close supervision,” she told WTAQ. “And those types of fireworks fireworks that they could use would be like both sparklers, smoke bombs, nothing that would go up in the air and eventually go ‘boom’.” While recent rain may have reduced brushfire risk, Walesh recommends keeping water on hand if you do set off consumer fireworks.
