One man was injured and a pet cat was killed after a fire broke out at a Baraboo home Thursday afternoon. Firefighters with the Baraboo Fire Department responded to 420 West Maple Street around 3:15 p.m. for an active structure fire. Authorities said in a Facebook post that crews found fire and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house when they arrived. One crew fought the fire from the exterior of the house while another entered through the front and worked to extinguish the fire from the inside. One man suffered minor injuries from smoke exposure; he was treated by Baraboo emergency medical responders. Two cats were rescued from the fire, but one of them ultimately died. Authorities said the home sustained moderate fire damage and is now uninhabitable. The displaced family is staying with relatives in the meantime.
