Crews helped knocked down a residential fire in Janesville on Thursday afternoon. The Janesville Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the 1400 block of East Holmes Street shortly after 1:30 p.m. According to a news release, crews found a small wood residence with flames in the back of the building which extended from a mulch pile and wooden privacy fence up to the second floor of the home. Officials said there was also smoke coming from the ridge vent on the roof. The release said no smoke detectors were activated. No one was hurt, though the fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
