A fire in one of the buildings in the Cruisers Yachts complex Wednesday could have been much worse without the quick response of employees, according to the Oconto Fire Rescue Department.
The department was called out just before 6:30 p.m. and arrived to find smoke venting through many of the doors to Building 16.
“Maintenance personnel had attacked the fire with handheld extinguishers and the building sprinkler system had activated,” Firefighter/AEMT John Floyd said in a news release.
Fire Chief Josh Bostedt said the fire, which occurred on a mezzanine where a table saw was sitting, was quickly extinguished.
“(The) damage was minor, fortunately,” he said.
Firefighters searched the area of the blaze with thermal imaging cameras and multi-gas meters to ensure it had not spread, hot areas remained, or toxic gases released.
