A hazardous materials crew responded to an apartment building in Monona Monday evening after first responders found a body inside, officials said. In a news release, the city’s police department said first responders were called to an apartment in the 300 block of Owen Road for a report of a dead person inside an apartment. “Information regarding a possible hazardous substance was found at the scene which required a Hazmat response per safety protocols,” Chief Brian Chaney Austin said in the release. The city’s fire department said firefighters initially found “an active hazardous condition with an unknown chemical mixture.” In a Facebook post Monday night, the fire department said it does not have details about the person who died or their possible relation to the hazardous materials incident.
