On Friday, April 15, community leader and founder of the "We Got This" community garden Andre Lee Ellis kicked off another community garden, this time in collaboration with the Milwaukee Fire Department.
The event was supported by many Milwaukee Leaders like Mayor Cavalier Johnson, County Executive David Crowley and State Senator Lena Taylor.
"Urban gardening, urban agriculture is the way of the future as it relates to jobs as it relates to healing, as it relates to wellness," said Ellis.
It all started when Fire Chief Aaron Lipski approached Ellis with the idea to use a 20,000 square foot plot of empty land right next to the fire house to good use. It took them about a month to plan everything. Their initiative called CAGE, which stands for community agricultural growing experiences.
