Students in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District are getting a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to work as a first responder. Monday was the first day of a week-long Summer Youth Academy hosted by local law enforcement agencies. Organizers said the event is not only a great way to learn about the different elements involved in law enforcement but also serves as a way to build community relationships.
“This is the first year we’ve ever done a youth academy, so we want to again open it up to a younger crowd to see what we do every day,” Tom Wilson, a community awareness officer with the Middleton Police Department, said.
In addition to policing, attendees will also spend one day learning about emergency medical services and one day with firefighters.
