VIDEO/PHOTO: A vehicle fire shut down at least two lanes of traffic on the eastbound Beltline near the Monona Drive exit, creating a significant traffic backup during the morning commute Thursday. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the fire was first reported at about 7:20 a.m. Thursday. As of about 8:40 a.m., the fire was out, but traffic continued to be congested in the area. Significant backups on the eastbound Beltline stretched from the scene of the fire on the Yahara Bridge near the Monona Dr. exit to as far as the eastbound exit to Park St. A large plume of smoke could be seen over the Beltline on DOT cameras in the area as crews worked for more than 45 minutes to put out the fire.
