The Merrill Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Merrill on Monday night. The call came in around 11:20 p.m. to reports of a fire on East 8th Street. Upon arrival, it was determined that all the occupants were out of the four apartments in the building. Occupants were displaced for the night, but according to the Merrill Fire Department occupants were hopeful that three of the four rooms could be re-occupied soon. Multiple units responded to the fire. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire inside one of the apartments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial reports indicate that it was unintentional.
