The Stevens Point Fire Department along with Portage County Ambulance are working to bring awareness to a heart healthy lifestyle.
February is American Heart Month, and now through March 8 a red heart will be on the side of Stevens Point Fire Station #1.
The heart has red bulbs, and for every heart attack or cardiac arrest that's recorded by the fire departments in Stevens Point, Amherst, and Plover a black bulb will replace a red one. "We see first hand people having cardiac arrest and while we do our best to resuscitate them and we do quite often, there are many times we can't so we really want to promote that heart healthy living," said Shane Westphal with the Stevens Point Fire Department.
