A few firefighters in Stevens Point were honored for their courage. Distinguished Service Awards were given to two members of city fire staff (Lt. Mark Schoeberle, and John Klementz) and a Mid-State Technical College intern (Riley Cate) for saving lives at a fire in a Stevens Point high rise last October. Chief J.B. Moody says all of them helped in carrying an unconscious person down three flights of stairs after finding them in black smoke. He adds that what they did was heroic. "Their outstanding performance presents the core values of the Stevens Point Fire Department and all we stand for. We are fortunate to be able to call these men and women brothers and sisters of the fire service," Moody said. The awards were given on behalf of the Stevens Point Housing Authority.
