All UW-Milwaukee dorms get carbon monoxide detectors

UW-Milwaukee is scrambling to install carbon monoxide alarms in all of its residence halls. The move comes after at least 17 students were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. Some 400 students were evacuated from the Cambridge Commons dorm late Monday night. Officials said they determined a boiler in the basement was to blame. "I heard on the loudspeaker, 'Attention. There is a carbon monoxide leak,'" resident Gavin Sayrs told WISN 12. But the building was only alerted after several students reported feeling sick. It wasn't until firefighters arrived and tested the air that they raised the alarm. "I heard the announcement. I didn't hear any carbon monoxide alarm go off," Sayrs said.
