A grass fire burned 35 acres in a marsh area owned by the Wisconsin DNR Thursday afternoon. Town of Clayton’s emergency manager, Kaylin Rieckmann, tells Action 2 News the wildfire started along the railroad tracks near Pioneer Road and Medina Junction Road. Clayton Fire Rescue called for more help, and ultimately 10 agencies responded to the fire. Crews quickly contained the fire, stopping it from jumping the tracks and doing more damage to the area. It took 7,000 gallons of water to put it out. A Canadian National Railroad train was confirmed to be the cause, sparking the grass fire as it passed. But the emergency manager is reminding people this is wildfire season and people need to be aware of burning safety when they do their outdoor spring cleaning.
